November Club Meeting � November 13, 2008
"Fly Fishing on the South Fork of the Snake River"

Our Thursday November 13th meeting of the Southeast Idaho Fly Fishers will showcase Fly Fishing on the South Fork of the Snake River, in South Eastern Idaho. Our presenter has guided and fished on the South Fork for many years and is one of the most knowledgeable individuals associated with this river.

Mr. Dan Hurzeler has guided both for trout and Steelhead in the Intermountain West and is an expert on catching BIG fish with streamers. Dan has also been in the retail end of the fly fishing industry, owning and operating �The Fin Chasers� in Idaho Falls Idaho.

Come to the meeting on November 13th and spend an enjoyable evening talking and learning about how to catch some of the most beautiful and feisty fish in the West right here in our backyard, the South Fork of the Snake River. Dan will be demonstrating some of his deadly patterns prior to the meeting, so come early and stay late for an outstanding evening of fly fishing and fly tying presentations.

PLEASE NOTE: Our November 13th meeting is in the new Rendezvous building on the ISU campus on Martin Luther King Drive, just west of Reed Gym. There is ample parking on the Northwest side of the street. Just cross Terry Street and enter the new building on the Northwest Corner. As you enter, there is a Bengal gift shop on the left. Pass this gift shop and continue for a short way down the hall. You will run into rooms A and B on the left side of the hallway.

December Club Meeting � December 11, 2008
"Open Fly Tying"

North/Middle Room of the Pond Student Union Building

Please join us for a fun, informal evening of open fly tying for our December club meeting. This has become a holiday time tradition. You can bring your material and vise and share your techniques, patterns and how to fish the patterns or simply pull up a chair, kick back and relax and learn from other enthusiasts. Either way, it�s a fun evening. The beginner can use this opportunity to learn more about the art of tying before making some serious investments in equipment and material. The seasoned tier can show off their honed skills and tricks of the trade (not to mention the size of fish they caught with a particular pattern). Get the bug (you bet a pun was intended) as a new fly tier and you can join other club members in tying up a batch of flies for the Fly Expo held in Idaho Falls this spring.

January Club Meeting � January 8, 2009

Our January club meeting will feature Ryan Pitcher as our featured guest speaker.

Ryan has extensive background of fishing in Alaska, Oregon and Idaho as well as a full-time outfitter and running a guide business.

Ryan grew up in Southeast Idaho fishing primarily the Snake as well as just about every other body of water that he could drive or hiked into. Each year Ryan and his father would venture up to the Salmon or the Clearwater to pursue Steelhead. Ryan started fly fishing at the age of 8 and caught his first steelhead when he was 9 on a polar shrimp fly that I tied.

Ryan went to ISU and graduated in 2000 then moved to Northwest Oregon. His work schedule allowed him to be a part-time guide on Oregon's coastal waters. In 2006 he went north to Alaska. There he guided and in 2007 he partnered with a couple of investors and purchased a remote fishing lodge located 75 miles Northwest of Anchorage.

After 20 plus years of fishing the Clearwater with his father there was an opportunity to purchase Clearwater River Company. They closed the deal in the spring of 2008 and hit the ground running. Ryan and his father had exceptional guides working for them this past fall and are really excited about the upcoming 2009 season.
